Another Mom and I were talking about the performance/costumes, and the whole dance experience today. We both didn't realize what it all entailed. Costumes, makeup, etc. Guess that's how we all learn. Gymnastics may be more our speed. After all was said and done, Maddie had such a great time and was beaming. So, it was a success.
Well, Maddie had her dance recital last night. Quite the day, with the rehearsal in the morning, and the recital last night. Maddie was very excited and couldn't WAIT to have makeup put on her. I can hardly put on my own makeup and do my own hair, never mind that of a 3 year old. My husband teased me that we wouldn't be doing pageants any time soon, as I don't do the whole dress/makeup thing so well. He wasn't being mean, it is just the truth. (And luckily, we are not looking to go down that road.)
It was very cute to see her exuberance and happiness. She was so thrilled. Her performance cracked me up. They had a "routine" they were supposed to do for ballet and tap. The "routine" didn't quite work out. It was definitely freestyle. Maddie was in two numbers in the recital. #12 and #48. I think the rain starting pouring, lightning and thunder added in, by #20. Since there were about 54 numbers, and it was already 7:45 or so, it was going to be a long night. And on a school night. So maybe the thunderstorms and rain were a blessing? Whoops, I didn't say that.
After my parents, kids, and husband were rainsoaked (I was with Maddie) we decided to leave. I couldn't believe they didn't cancel it by the time we left. We were at an outdoor ampitheatre. Luckily, they were able to take all the girls performing indoors, but all the people watching were drenched. I have heard it was finally postponed. Anyway, thanks to my parents for coming, getting drenched, and making it special for my Maddie. She loved getting roses from us, hair accessories from Grandma and Grandpa and the attention of peforming on stage. She announced to us after the "formance" that she was going to get married "tomorrow" and wanted more flowers for the wedding. She also wants to do more "formances". I have to admit, she was beaming, and so happy.
