A funny little sidenote to my hair drama story! So, I got my hair color drastically changed from blonde to dark brown! So this morning, I went to get little Dylan (almost 1) out of his crib, and he looked freaked out and backed away from me (which he has NEVER done!) So, immediately I began talking to him and then he immediately warmed up to me! The poor kid had not recognized me! He thought some weird lady was going to pick him up! (or maybe he was trying to let me know my hair looks really bad!!!)
I also have had fun teasing little Ethan (5). His whole world is Spiderman. I always tease him about having a crush on MJ (Spidey's girl). So with my color change I kept teasing him that I was MJ. He kept getting all shy and funny as I kept calling him Spidey and pretending I was MJ! Kids can be so fun and cute! That is most of the reason I do this blog, is to remember the fun and cute stuff they do!

Part 2 of the Hair Nightmare!
My New Look (it will take a little getting used to for me!)
Well, after a total of over 8 hours at the salon, my ordeal is finally over! I was at the salon today, from 10am until a little after 3pm. No lie! 5 hours! (plus the 3 hours yesterday!) After their "fix" this morning, at about noon, I had black tips at the bottom, reddish brown in the middle and dark brown on top. It was supposed to all be a reddish brown color! The lady who did my hair promised she would make it look good before I left! At about noon she told me there was nothing she could do to correct it. After the manager came over, and all her colleagues were taking a look at the bad results, I think she was shamed into doing the "real" fix that needed to be done. That only took 3 more hours! Anyway, I am glad it is all over. The owner was clearly mortified for me so she offered to bring me in lunch. I was like don't worry about it, and she was like, no, really, it will be a long time, let me get you some food. So, at least I got a free lunch! I felt so bad for my friend and neighbor Angie who was watching my kids! (Hopefully she is still my friend!) She was so kind about it all, but she had a total of 8 kids for most of the day! Thanks Angie, I so owe you! I really didn't anticipate it being 5 hours today! Anyway, so far, blondes really do have more fun!

A Hair Nightmare!
Top Ten statements you don't want to hear from your stylist!
1-Oops, this has never happened before!
2-Just give me a couple minutes and it should be fine.
3-Let me just ask Jill what she thinks we should do (asking other stylists for suggestions)
4-We are just going to call the makers of this hair dye, they should know what to do!
5-Are you pregnant? (the answer was no. Apparently this can affect the hair dye process)
6-Have you had chemo? (answer also no, apparently this too can affect the hair dye process)
7- We are going to put this "protein" solution in your hair and this plastic hair net on your head. Wear it till bedtime.
8-Before you go to bed, rinse out the "protein" solution and put in this other solution and here is another hair net to wear all night!
9-When is the earliest you can come in tomorrow morning? We open at 10am!
10-I promise, it will look fabulous before you leave tomorrow!
I guess I was supposed to be thrilled that they gave me a $10 discount and it only came to $85. Let's just say I am less than thrilled. More and more lately, I have been relying on that good 'ol sense of humor! Honestly, I just have to laugh at these situations! As a stay at home Mom, I get excited at these "relaxing" moments at the salon. Today was not one of those!
Having moved to a new city a little over a year ago, we have had to find new Dr's, dentists, haircare, etc. This nice salon opened by our house a couple months ago and I thought it would be great to get my hair done there. I wanted to dye my hair dark, so I definately knew I wanted a "nicer" salon to do this. I have never had dark hair and this was going to be a big change for me. I definately wanted it done right. Some of the things that were said to me during this hair process today did not inspire me (to say the least!) Maybe I should've stayed blonde! Maybe blondes do have more fun! So far, the dark hair is not working out so well!
Don't you just love my new look? No, I have not just gotten a job as a lunch lady! I didn't expect to come home from the salon like this! My husband is all, "Hey lunch lady, come here." At least he made me laugh! Life is just full of surprises!
Tonight's 2nd remedy! Let's hope it all works!
Needless to say, it was not the best of hair experiences. I guess the top of my hair took to the dye, but the bottom did not! So, it looks like my hair is two colors! Let's hope their "fix" works, as I have no more time to spend on my hair. And that is the problem with going to the wrong salon, it is not like you can get up and run when you notice all has gone wrong! You are sorta' stuck to see if they can make it work. If not, I guess I get to spend another $85 at another salon to get it fixed! Anyway, I am a touch agitated, but thought you all might get a good laugh from me in a hair net! My husband and kids sure did! I'll let you know how tomorrow goes!

Maddie's Family Party!
Hanging from the chandelier! Maddie already knows how to party!
Maddie is determined to carry in her grandparent's birthday gift all by herself!

Blowing out the candles!

There is nothing Maddie loves more than "babies" and accessories for the babies! She could not have been more thrilled than she was with 2 new babies, and a stroller for those babies!
Is there anything better than anticipation? I had to take these pics of the kids anticipating the arrival of their grandparents! They could NOT wait till they arrived for the party!

The Miracle of Maddie
The Miracle of Maddie:
We had adopted Benjamin 10 and a half months prior to Maddie's birth. When Benjamin was about 5 months old, I went to drop off a piece of mail for Jennie (birthmom) at her Mom's house! Jennie was not living there at the time, and she was on the out's with her Mom, so was rarely there. I felt that it was Godly intervention that arranged for her to be there right at the time that I dropped off this mail! I will never forget seeing Jenny come down the stairs of the apartment building. I had not had much contact with her since Benjamin's birth, so I was completely shocked to see a very pregnant Jennie coming down the stairs! I had no idea she was pregnant or that far along. (this was probably in July) So, Jennie and I talked. She told me she had been wanting to call me, but had been ashamed since she had gotten pregnant so soon after the birth of Benjamin. She also told me that the father of this baby was not her boyfriend, so she was hoping that we would want to adopt this baby too. I instantly told her that we would love to adopt her baby. She told me she thought she was due around November or December, but had not been to the Doctor yet. I told her we would help her get into the Dr. as soon as possible. (She seemed to always fear going to Dr's). That was a long car ride home, and you can imagine the conversation with Brandon; asking him if he was ready to be a father again, and would he be willing to adopt another baby. Once again, I am so grateful for a wonderful, supportive husband, who immediately jumped at this opportunity whole-heartedly! He is one of a kind, not many men would be so supportive!
For much of her pregnancy, Jenny would not return my calls, I think she made it to 2 Dr's appointments during her pregnancy. I was so excited when we found out she was pregnant with a girl! Jenny was nice enough to let me go to the ultrasound appointment and be there when they told her "it's a girl." We also got a due date of around Thanksgiving! I couldn't have been more thrilled. For most of September, I could not reach Jenny and she would not return my calls. I was so scared and worried that Jenny had changed her mind and that we would not be able to adopt this little girl. My great friend Shauna came down and helped me handle all my anxiety!!! (that's another story!) I literally had such a difficult month not knowing what was going to happen. That is the hardest thing about adoption. You have to give the birth mom the space and time she needs, but it is so hard when it directly affects you. Luckily, by October, Jenny and I were talking again, and everything seemed to be going very well. I would meet with Jenny every week. I will never forget the strange turn of events on November 5th. I had gone to Costco and was going to bring food to Jennie. She wouldn't return my calls which was so odd for Jennie at this stage of the game. So, I took the groceries to her home anyway. She came out, we talked, I left the groceries, and everything seemed fine. At about 3:30 pm that day, we got a frantic call from her boyfriend telling us they were at the hospital and Maddie was born. They said that even a Dr. had not been able to deliver her, they had barely gotten to the hospital in time for a nurse to grab the baby as she came out.
We raced to the Payson hospital! When we got there, we found out little Maddie was born with an infection, as Jennie had waited over 24 hours to get to the hospital after her water broke. Jennie had been making some bad choices and was probably trying to avoid getting caught for making some of those choices, so little Maddie was born with an infection and also with drugs in her system. I can't tell you how upset we were. I was bawling---little Maddie looked so pitiful and helpless hooked up to everything and clearly in bad shape! Honestly, it was so pitiful! Then, to complicate things, my husband Brandon HAD to go on a business trip on Monday for 3 days! It was ironic, because he rarely had to travel with his job, but it just so happened this was one of those times! We hadn't been expecting Maddie till the end of the month, so definately had not anticipated her birth that early! I will never forget the blessing that Brandon gave little Maddie, along with a grandfather who was also caring for his grandchild, also suffering with drug-affects. For some reason, when Maddie was born, there were a couple babies in the nursery with drug affects. These babies were so miserable, and screaming. The nurses kept warning us that Maddie would begin to demonstrate these symptoms soon and that we needed to prepare for this. Maddie was kept in the hospital that week, I stayed at the hospital, worrying over little Maddie! The hospital nurses and Dr's were amazed that although she clearly was born with drugs in her system, she never had any of the symptoms that come with that! I know that Maddie was healed from the blessing her father gave to her! I was saddened by the grandparents that were to be the caregivers of the other baby. That other baby would just scream 24/7 and was clearly so miserable. I have always felt sad that this child had to experience the affects of drugs in her system! It was a sad situation! It left me a lot to think about! Why some children are healed, others are not---I have faith in a God who knows all! I don't understand all of these things, but I know God is aware of all, loves all his children, and everything happens for a reason! We were able to bring Maddie home about a week later! She was such a sweet, good baby. She rarely cried, loved to sleep and was sweet as can be. I will always be grateful that she was OK and was healed from infirmities! That was such a scary time in our lives! You can't even begin to understand the immense shock of finding out about another Jenny pregnancy about 6 months later! That will be a story for next week about the birth of Baby Dylan (he was born November 13th of the following year!)

Happy Birthday Madison!
I can't believe my baby is already two! It feels like she has been in our family forever! It has been such a rich blessing for our family to have a little girl! After all the blue and green, we were definately needing a little pink! Her beautiful smile, sweet spirit, and laughter bring such happiness into our lives! Everyone in the family adores her; you really can't help it! Little Brandon has been concerned since Saturday, about wrapping her gifts! We took all the kids to the Dollar Store on Saturday to choose out some little gifts for Maddie! They were all so excited, and have been chomping at the bit to wrap them ever since they bought them. Little Brandon is also very concerned about the actual time that Maddie was born, and how that is the official time when she will actually turn two. He is also very concerned about getting the cake and everything ready for her little family party at 6pm. It is absolutely adorable to see the love that the siblings have for one another. The kids have been singing "Happy Birthday" to Maddie ever since we got up. They have been so sweet and considerate! Brandon and I am so grateful to have a daughter and the boys are so grateful to have a sister! I am very grateful to my Heavenly Father for blessing me with all my children. I am also so grateful for his healing power in helping her return to health after a difficult birth! Heavenly Father is a God of miracles and I have witnessed that on so many occasions, especially with the births and adoptions of my children! Madison has been a miraculous blessing for our family!

Christmas Music, Already?
So, when we are in the car, we often listen to Cozy 106.5, as I happen to love all those cheezy oldies and love songs (and I love me some Delilah (the love song lady!) Yes, I am one of those annoying drivers who is singing as loud as I can to the music as I drive! (Hey, then you don't have to listen to the kids screaming, right?) Anyway, I was shocked on November 1st, when they began playing Christmas music on 106.5. Brandon and I were in the car with all the kids. We both looked at each other, and both commented on how odd the Christmas music seemed the day after Halloween! More odd, was that we both continued to listen and sorta' enjoyed it! We were both laughing about that! It is early for Christmas music, but once they start playing, it is hard to turn the dial for some reason! So, if you want to get pepped up for Christmas, just turn the dial to 106.5, even if that music should not be allowed till after Thanksgiving!!! So, no more cheezy love songs (except for when Delilah comes on at night) for about 2 months! Will I be able to survive? I may have to turn cheezy music back onto my blog so I can get my daily fix!

Coco and Bobo!
Coco and Bobo are "bad words" in our household! It all began about 6 months or a year ago, when Ethan realized he was never going to get away with name calling with words such as "stupid" and other such words! So, being the creative child he is, he decided he did not need the "bad words" of the world! He realized he could create his own "bad" names! That is when he began calling people "bobo" and "coco" when he got mad or wanted to call names. He would still get in trouble, but not for using those words. I have not figured out if that is a good or a bad thing yet, but I do have to laugh as these new "bad words" have caught on with some neighbor kids, who can now also call others a "bobo" or "coco". I also have to laugh as I hear Maddie and Benj (Ethan's younger siblings) using "bobo" and "coco" when they are mad at you. To understand how funny it is, you would have to see Maddie's glare and mean tone of voice as she calls you these names! It truly is hard not to laugh! On one hand, I am glad you cannot hear my toddlers saying "stupid", or other known bad words, but still, they think they are saying mean or bad words, so clearly I may have won the battle but lost the war!
Tonight I had a good laugh! My husband and the two oldest boys went to the football game. I then and went to hang out with my friend Traci at her house with 3 of the kids. We had a great time chatting it up! She also introduced me to a great lunch spot "The Italian Place". Be careful, it is addictive! I then went and picked up the boys from the game, we ran a couple errands, and then decided to meet up with Traci, Leroy and their family for dinner at Brick Oven. We were foolish enough to think we could have a civilized dinner (not a great choice for our family of seven!) You can possibly imagine the antics that went on over dinner; especially with three of the babies ages 2 and under! When the balloon lady came by and offered to make the kids balloon shaped novelties, I thought we had a chance of having a pleasant dinner! FOOLISH! The balloons only gave the children more items to use as weapons! (So, when you see that balloon maker at the restaurant, RUN! The balloons are a total nightmare and definately not helpful!) We finally realized we were not going to be able to enjoy our dinner with friends, so we all gave up and left! We then attempted our long drive home! The children were tired and being naughty with one another; arguing, etc. So, my husband said to the kids "no talking the rest of the way home." So, of course, Benjamin begins to growl. So, then my husband said "No growling either." It was then that I had difficulty holding in the laughter! It was after this exchange that I heard Benjamin calling him a "coco"! It is a little frightening the things that bring you into fits of laughter after a rough day with five kids! Even my husband Brandon was trying not to laugh! This is probably one of those situations, you just had to be there! Thank goodness for laughter, it sure is a great way to diffuse tension! Thanks Traci and Leroy for putting up with all the antics at dinner!

TRUE BLUE for BYU!
The kids shouting "BYU!" Maddie and Dylan clearly did not enjoy the cheers! (Maddie is probably just upset because she would rather be wearing pink!)
My Dad signed up the kid's for the BYU Kids Cougar Club. As a result, they all got t-shirts and some other fun things! I loved seeing all the kids in their matching shirts! Maddie just wanted her bottle and Dylan just wanted a nap! It has been a fun year. My Dad, Brandon, little Brandon and Ethan all have season tickets to the BYU games, so they have really enjoyed going to the games this year! Next year I think Benjamin will be ready for the BYU games! I am sorry to say I just have absolutely no interest in football whatsoever! It has been a fun bonding activity for all the men and the mancubs of the family!
