Dylanism

Dylan comes out of the tub and shows me his hands, "I have old hands, Mommy, see?"

Ethanism

A great Ethanism:

"Mommy, I want to be a policeman someday. Then I can drive faster than the speed limit and get $100 from someone speeding." -Ethan (He was sad to discover that he couldn't just pocket that money if he was a cop.)

You need to love us as much...........

My husband was at the store with Brandon and Ethan. My husband was picking out some treats for me. Ethan tells his Dad, "You need to love us as much as you love Mommy. You should buy us some treats."Mon at 10:11am Only Friends · Comment ·LikeUnlike · View Feedback (10)Hide Feedback (10)Susie Stryker White, Bonnie Mattson, Dawn Coats Perry and 3 others like this.

Geography...

Facebook is my new blog, but one day I will publish this...so I am posting some of my facebook status and comments.

So we were talking to our oldest son about pornography and the dangers of it. He says, "I haven't heard about pornography, but I've heard about geography." Oh, nine year olds are so cute. I figure with four boys we better start these discussions.

Margie Stryker Hamberlin Oh yes, we had the talk with our kids (so far at 8-boy and 9-girl). Good job! There are lots of dangers of geography, too :) So cute!
6 hours ago · Tina Loveland Sudweeks HAHA - geography... too funny. I think those talks are SO IMPORTANT these days!! We start even younger than that.... sad hu.
6 hours ago · Sally Miller Cannon Good job! It's sweet how innocent they are!
6 hours ago · Laura Bartholomew Woodruff We have had a lot of other discussions, but not the stay away from naked pictures talk till now. And then it gets into cellphones, etc. Wow. Our world is so much different now with the internet and technology. There is a lot more to beware of. I hope I can prepare my children for the pivotal moments of life.
6 hours ago · Jennifer Cox Geography...lol!! We started all these conversations with Sydney when she turned 8. We figured if she was old enough to be baptized than she needed to understand geography and all the other stuff that goes along with it.
6 hours ago · Shauna Scott Rideout I love it!!!
3 hours ago · Angie Jones Barzee not looking forward to having to 'go there' with my boys. . .sometimes this world really sucks with all the crap they throw out there that I have to worry about for my kids.
3 hours ago · Laura Bartholomew Woodruff The sad part is not if they are exposed to pornography, it is "when"----so I want them to be prepared. And with all the kids with cellphones.......
3 hours ago · Rachel Dekker Moody Since he's already been exposed to geography you know it's going to be soon! :)
3 hours ago · Angie Jones Barzee ick. I know. I hate the thought of my kids seeing that. It seriously makes me ill.

Older Brothers

Brandon (9) has taught Benjamin (4) to shine a flashlight in your eyes and say "Stop the Vehicle now." A great way to start out a Monday morning.

Brandonism

I was setting up a blog for Ethan who was begging for one, and when I asked Brandon if he wanted one too, this was his response. (Since I was blocking his blog from the general public). "C'mon Mom, why am I going to blog when the only people reading are in this house. I am not blogging till I get my freedom." -Brandon (9)

Saving the Environment

After his football game, my son Brandon took a REALLY quick shower. I told him he definitely didn't have enough time to get clean. Little B says, "I am trying to save the environment." Who knew I was raising an environmentalist:)

Eat the Worm

Benjamin (4) and Ethan (7) walked in from our backyard chanting "Eat the worm", "eat the worm". Ethan was holding a big, long worm. I told him to take it outside. Hopefully the worm will live. Sometimes I am frightened of boys.

I guess Ethan said someone in his class had eaten a worm. Pressure was on. He was trying to gain the courage to eat the worm. I greatly discouraged such action. I don't think he was able to. Thankfully.

Of course, this afternoon Maddie and Benj went on another worm hunt. So many worms have lived and died on our property. Poor bugs and worms.

Little Brandonism

So my 9 year old busted my chops the other day. We had to get up at around 6am on Saturday to be at football practice at 7am. At about 6:15am, I had gotten dressed and semi-ready, so what do I do? Hop on facebook for a couple minutes. Little Brandon busted my chops, saying, "You have 15 minutes Mom, use it wisely."

He is so on to me.

Are we going to see their babies come down from heaven?

"Are we going to see their babies come down from heaven?" -Benjamin (4)----going to my cousins wedding dinner last night, Benj assumes that with marriage, the babies just "come" down from heaven. I guess right there, after the wedding. Maybe we need to read that book, "where babies come from".

Love the cute things little kids say!

Everyday Sayings

My three toddlers have several phrases that they use constantly. I almost want to teach them some new "meaner" things to say, as I am sick of hearing the same things over and over again. Funny, how the sweet phrases they say don't ever seem to get old.

I will be OK if I never hear a toddler tell me, their father, their siblings or anyone, ever again, "You are a meaner." I don't know who started this saying in our home, but if I hear it again (which I will in a couple minutes) I may just lose it.

Many times every day, Dylan (2) and Maddie (3) invite and disinvite every member of the family to their birthday party. "You are not invited to my birthday party." "You are not coming to my birthday party."

Also frequently heard, "You are invited to my birthday party" and "you are coming to my birthday party."

I guess that is the greatest ammunition for little kids-----a birthday party and those invites. Cracks me up.

My favorite is when little Dylie says, "You are my best friend." He says it so sincerely and with the sweetest tone and those beautiful brown eyes are just staring up at you. You can't help but smile. He doesn't clearly understand that "best" means there is only one. He will often tell several people at the same time they are his best friend.

However, if little Dylie is upset with you, he will tell you with a pout, "You are not my best friend" and "you are not coming to my party".

Perfect. That'll save a lot of money. Ha-Ha. I know, I am a "meaner".

Debbie Rowe? Really?

Scared of that.

Anyway, today, in the car, my 7 year old son was talking to me about Michael Jackson. Thank goodness I wrote in my journal nearly every day growing up (sarcasm), and thank goodness, so many of my entries as a youth were about Michael Jackson. My son Brandon likes to avidly read my old journals and then dispel info discovered to the rest of the children. I know, lucky me.

Anyway, so Ethan begins asking me how old I was when I started liking Michael Jackson songs (probably around age 11 or 12) Ethan: "Oh, you were older than me." Ethan: "How old were you when Michael Jackson sang his first song?" Me: "I wasn't alive yet." Ethan: "And he's dead now." Me: "Yes". Ethan: "And you'll die before me." Me: (Grumpily): "Yes"

Then Ethan turns around in the van and says, "And Brandon will die before me."

Then, once again, the conversation turns back to MJ. Ethan says, "You know Mom, you look sorta' like that woman that Michael Jackson was married too."

So, I start to think (which doesn't happen all that often, btw). And as much as I would like to think he was talking about Lisa Marie Presley, I realized that is not the case. Which means he was saying I look like Debbie Rowe.

Fabulous. If I am going to look like a semi-celebrity couldn't it be someone a little better? I guess it could be worse. He could've told me I look like OctoMom.

We may be banning any more of this Michael Jackson talk. I don't like where it is going. Death and me looking like Debbie Rowe. Hmmmmm. Maybe it's time for a makeover.

Oh kids!

Puter

Little Dylan (2) today; "I want to see Nana on the puter." Nana and Papa bought a webcam so they could see the kids while they talk on the phone. The kids have enjoyed making use of this! Of course, I don't know how to make any type of technology work, so we couldn't talk to Nana, as I don't know how to use it. Maybe little Brandon (9) or Ethan (7) can teach me how!!!

Dealing

So we are in the van on our way to a family reunion. My husband Brandon and I are negotiating who will be "dealing" with the babies. I suggest that I will "deal" with Maddie (3) and my husband can "deal" with Dylan (2). (I guess in our minds the 4, 7, and 9 year olds could "deal" by themselves for the most part.) Anyway, I had to laugh as Maddie (3), having overheard our conversation, said she wanted Daddy to "deal" with her.

My kids new favorite show

Little Dylan (2 1/2) came up to me tonight and said, "Mommy, I wanna watch Wipeout." My kids could watch it for hours. It is great incentive to do chores---works like a charm. It's great that all my kids love it. From ages 2-9. Score. I need to just tape them all to have them on hand for our break in July. (Year-round school!)

Marshmallow Plants

My husband and I were talking about planting our garden and trying to decide what all to plant. Benjamin (4) had a suggestion. He says, "I want a marshmallow plant. I really do." He didn't believe us that there was no such thing. I think he thinks we are being mean. So please, if you see him, resist the urge to tell him about your marshmallow plant and how many big, luscious marshmallows you have growing on it right now.

"I want to get married next"

Well, to my cousin's daughter, Sarah, a big thank you. You have inspired my 3 year old daughter. As we were looking at some of the beautiful photos of Sarah's wedding, my daughter Maddie says, "I want to get married next." She also asked me "Who is that princess?" LOVE it.

Except that Maddie is never allowed to leave home and get married. Except for that, it is really cute.

My cousin Shirleen's daughter; Sarah's wedding. Hope you can follow my great freestyle writing. Cute little Paisley looking at the butterflies. What a great idea. Enough to inspire many princesses to get married. And I am sorry some of the photos are so small. I am not computer saavy so I have no idea why.

A Girl Likes Me.....

Little Brandon (9) came home from school and told me that a weird thing happened to him today. He tells me that on their walk home from school, a girl in the first grade told him she liked him. He was embarassed, felt weird about it, and instantly told me, "I'm walking a new way home."

Oh, the akwardness of crushes.

Another cute thing about little Brandon; today when he returned home from school, he told me he had learned how to put together a pen. He disassembled the pen (about 7 pieces) and put it together again. He was so excited and proud. He has always loved Transformers, puzzles, and anything that involves putting pieces together---and he has a talent for it.

One of these days, I hope Daddy can buy an old junker car for them to have fun tinkering on. That would be great Daddy-son time. And I know they would all love it.

And Mom......

Before Brandon's 9th birthday party:

His request:

"And Mom, please don't embarrass me at my party. That's what Moms do."

Uhmmmm---I will try, but it's hard not to be true to myself. In every thing to thyself be true. A conflict of interest. What to do?

Kid Quotes

Ethan (during birthday celebration with parents): "You love me so much it's almost like you're in love with me."

Ethan (on his birthday date with Mom & Dad): "I am growing up bigger than the universe."

"I got poop in my butt" -Dylan (2)

Brandon (8) comes home from school and sees my pictures of our Chuck E. Cheese adventure. He says, "Did you do that today?" I told him yes. He then said, "Did you have fun?" I told him yes. Brandon says, "By fun you mean kids crying all over the place." I had to laugh!

In a rare moment, my children are telling me what a great Mom I am. Ethan says, "You are as good as Jesus." (no, but thanks!) Then he tells Benjamin, "Don't tell her she's as good as Mary." (Meaning Jesus's mother. I guess she holds quite a high position; and I can't be compared to that.)

We are on our way to Costco as a family. Dylan (2) keeps asking, "Where are we going?" We have told him "Costco" several times. Finally, Maddie (3) starts saying, "For the last time....". Ironically, she keeps repeating, "for the last time Dylan, for the last time Dylan".......I am sure she is not imitating me. I am sure I don't repeat "for the last time..." 100 times to my kids.
